My Journey of E-Sports in India

I started playing as a professional gamer in the end of 2009 and the first national level tournament I attended was BYOC 2010, Delhi. It had a huge impact on me and I was really fascinated by it that so many gamers come together to compete under one roof and they earn money just by playing the games they are good at with lots of hours of practice daily. I moved to Bangalore to do Game Designing. So in 2011, I created a team in Bangalore known as "The Werewolves [TWW]"
We attended a few city level tournaments in Bangalore winning 12 championship titles in 2011-12 then there was a sudden decrease in the Indian eSports Industry. Indian pro-gaming industry had just picked up some pace and it suddenly falls down to points of criticism making Indian pro-gaming industry a joke.

Yes, if you haven't guessed yet, it was the time of "Indian Gaming Carnival" year 2012 announcing 1.5 crore (valued US$ 300,000 at that time) prize money in total turned out to be a big scam. The event was hosted by company named "WTF Eventz" which later on they justified their name WTF Event?. Day 1 postponed to the next day, no concert, power shortage on the third day and nobody got the cash prize they were promised. Many international esports teams participated including Orange E-Sports, MiTH, NXL and Moscow Five went back disappointed. It became a huge news in the world of E-Sports. After that no international team except Sri Lanka visited India since then.

Not only bad things happened, Indian eSports Industry also gained exposure in International level Sagar 'Lovesx' Vyas represented India in ESWC, Paris for FIFA 12. Team Brutality Simranjeet 'LionHart' Singh represtended India in IeSF 2012 World Championship. NSD Gaming represented India in Asia E-Sports Cup, Tokyo for CS 1.6, Team Elunes represented India in DotA2 The Asia 2012, Malaysia. When I saw the decrease in eSports tournaments, me and some of my friends started hosting tournaments in Bangalore. We hosted 3 tournaments including 2 national level tournaments "Gamer of Nation Championship Series" in 2012. Then I settled for a job Marketing Analyst at Faxtel Systems India which is the India partner of Steelseries. After working nearly a year i left the job to do something more for e-sports, I was not satisfied, i needed the real thing.. tournament, live audience, the shouting of gamers, the rage of vengeance in the games, the pressure of handling 300-500 gamers on LAN parties. So in 2014 I started Varcas Interactive to give the gamers real entertainment, the real deal. Not only for gamers we started services for the gaming gear companies to help them reach their marketing goals. There is much more to say maybe you can invite me for a cup of tea or coffee and i'll tell the rest of the untold stories.

About Myself: Sonu Singh

Hi,

I don't know if you are interested to know about me but still I have to introduce myself as it is my first post. I am Sonu Singh. I'm an entrepreneur, an eSports enthusiast and Founder/CEO of Varcas Interactive. So, if you are still here and reading this than you must know that I'm total weirdo, mad man who just want to do things differently and loves his freedom. Sometimes I talk a lot.. a lot. I think that's why I started to write on blog as nobody is going to listen to me for that long. I thought to start blogging long time back but couldn't because of time scarcity then I realized that you will not get enough time for anything. Whatever you wanna do, just do it and that is the right time. Oh! I was suppose to introduce myself on my first post and now I'm talking about time management. I love travelling and everybody else should. It has taught me so much and it's really fascinating to see new places with so many different cultures, traditions and believes. I should stop now and I shall never bore you again!. Before writing this post I was thinking and thinking and I had nothing to write and see now I've wrote so many lines. I don't know how to end this, I'll would like to say LIVE YOUR LIFE because you only have one chance, one life... no retakes, no second chances.
